28 custom VJ clips created for Shogun Audio's 20th anniversary — one of drum and bass's most respected and longest-running independent labels. The brief called for a distinct visual identity rooted in Japanese aesthetics, with Shogun's logo integrated throughout, built to perform live at anniversary shows and events across 2024.
The Brief
Shogun Audio needed something beyond generic VJ content for their 20th anniversary celebrations. The clips had to carry the label's identity visually, logo-integrated, stylistically coherent, and strong enough to hold their own on a live stage in front of a drum and bass crowd that knows the brand intimately.
The visual direction was Japanese-inspired, drawing on principles of controlled restraint, precise geometry, and atmospheric depth. Every clip needed to feel like it belonged to Shogun's world without resorting to literal or clichéd references.
I worked with Matt King on this project, handling all animation, simulation, and render work across the full set of 28 clips.

The Work
All 28 clips were built in Cinema 4D with X-Particles for simulation and Octane for rendering, delivered in HD at 30fps in a 16:9 format, optimised for live performance across a range of stage configurations.
The logo integration was handled as a design challenge rather than an afterthought. Rather than placing the Shogun mark on top of finished content, the logo geometry informed the structure of each clip, used as an anchor point for particle systems, light sources, and simulation origins, so the branding felt embedded in the motion rather than overlaid on it.
The result was a cohesive set of 28 seamless loops covering a range of moods and intensities — from slow, atmospheric builds to high-energy sequences designed for peak moments in a live set.
