Client: Sony
Studio Collaboration: Fgreat! Studios
Role: Particle Simulation Artist
Tools: Cinema 4D, X-Particles, Redshift
This project was created to visualise the 3D Audio experience of PlayStation 5, a technology designed to place sound precisely in three-dimensional space around the player.3D Audio allows players to perceive sound directionally with high accuracy. Footsteps, movement, and environmental cues can be heard from their exact position, creating a deeply immersive in-game experience.
The goal of the film was not to explain the technology literally, but to translate spatial audio into a visual language that feels physical, responsive, and alive.
My Contribution
I was responsible for the particle simulations used throughout the piece.
Using Cinema 4D and X-Particles, I developed dynamic particle systems that react, flow, and evolve in space, mirroring how sound waves move around the player in a 3D environment. The simulations were designed to feel directional, layered, and precise, supporting the idea of audio existing as a tangible spatial force.
The work required balancing technical control with visual clarity, ensuring the simulations integrated cleanly into the final composited shots while remaining flexible for creative direction and timing adjustments.
Technical Approach
Custom X-Particles setups to simulate directional sound movement
Layered particle systems to represent spatial depth and proximity
Optimised simulations for smooth integration into the final animation pipeline
Close collaboration with Fgreat! Studios to align motion, rhythm, and narrative pacing
Outcome
The final piece presents PlayStation 5’s 3D Audio not as an abstract concept, but as a sensory experience, where sound becomes visible, spatial, and emotionally engaging.
